The 2021 Ram 1500 Crew Cab Deemed a Top Safety Pick

February 26th, 2021 by

Back and better than ever, the Ram 1500 model continues to rack up accolades. This time around, the 2021 Ram 1500 Crew Cab model equipped with Ram Truck’s Advanced Safety Group earned top honors from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). This marks the first time in the distinction’s history that a pickup achieves a Top Safety Pick designation back-to-back (2020 and 2021) from the IIHS.

“A Top Safety Pick for the Ram 1500 solidifies our long-standing commitment to our customers through advanced technology and engineering expertise,” said Mike Koval Jr., Ram Brand Chief Executive Officer – Stellantis. “This validation from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety builds consumer confidence in our trucks and in the Ram brand.”

In order to earn a Top Safety Pick distinction from the IIHS, vehicles must be equipped with Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking. Luckily for Ram Trucks, their sensor-fusion Automatic Emergency Braking system is rated as “advanced.  The truck maker’s sensor-fusion technology combines cameras with radar sensors to determine hazardous frontal impacts. If after several alerts there is no response from the vehicle’s driver, the system automatically engages the truck’s brakes to help either avoid or mitigate the severity of accidental impact.

Ram’s Advanced Safety Group Package not only includes Pedestrian Automatic Emergency Braking, the safety group also offers buyers Lane Departure Warning-Plus, Rear Cross Path detection, Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop, Go, and Hold, and Blind-Spot Monitoring with trailer coverage as well. The Automatic Emergency Braking feature earned the highest possible rating — “superior”– during its IIHS testing and comes standard on the Laramie, Rebel, Longhorn, Limited Longhorn, and Limited trims. Tradesman and Bighorn trims that include the Level 1 Equipment Group package also enjoy the advanced safety feature. The 2021 Ram 1500 Crew Cab underwent a total of six different IIHS crashworthiness tests, including three types of frontal crashes. The remaining crashworthiness tests simulate side, rear, and rollover impact damage — the 2021 Ram 1500 Crew Cab earned the highest possible score in each crashworthiness test.

Ram 1500

The 2020 Ram 1500 sets benchmarks for technology, efficiency, durability, and convenience features never-before-seen in a pickup and is largely considered an industry leader. The Ram 1500 offers buyers up to 12,750 pounds of towing capability and 2,300 pounds of payload. Those looking for a fuel-efficient pickup should look no further, as the Ram 1500 offers an eTorque mild hybrid system that improves fuel efficiency figures when paired with the standard V6 engine and the optional HEMI V8 engine. For 2021, the Ram 1500 is America’s most powerful half-ton pickup thanks to its 480 lb-ft of torque, and America’s most capable light-duty diesel pickups thanks to a towing capability figure of 12,560 pounds.
