Outside of the Basel Madness
While Art Basel-related events started in our neighboring city, Miami, on Dec. 1, the official Art Basel event, Art Basel Miami Beach, is set to start Friday, Dec. 3 and will run through the weekend. Art Basel Miami Beach is one of three Art Basel shows held around the world and is considered the most important art show in the U.S., and is also one of the largest in terms of exhibition space.
More than 260 art galleries and famous works from around the world will be temporarily housed in the Miami Beach Convention Center. Works from the masters of contemporary and modern art will be on display, as will the works of up-and-coming artists. To help attendees navigate through all of the paintings, sculptures and installations, have been divided into nine sectors that offers festival goers a look at diverse collections of arts.
While Art Basel Miami Beach is technically the “main event,” there are tons of significant art events, parties and shows planned throughout Miami Beach, downtown Miami and in Miami’s iconic art district, Wynwood. Many of the events start before Basel and the first of them are slated to begin on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
Whether a resident or visitor, there are plenty of opportunities to experience Miami and Art Basel. Here is a guide to avoiding “Art Basel’s Traffic Hell.” Additionally, there will be a free shuttle running between Miami Beach and Miami mainland. For more information on that, visit miamibeachfl.gov/Transportation.
Want to avoid the madness and traffic? Since we’re located outside of Miami and the beaches getting to us won’t be a problem — come visit. Rob Lambdin’s University Dodge is located at 5455 S. University Dr. in Davie, Florida. Besides, our “art” is generally more affordable than anything at Art Basel Miami Beach.
