Ram Introduces Kentucky Derby Edition for its Heavy Duty Lineup
We’ve said it before and we will say it again, but Ram has the best product introductions in auto shows across the U.S. and this time it’s the New York Auto Show’s turn to shine. Ram recently debuted a limited edition of its new 2019 Ram Heavy Duty model to celebrate the 145th running of the Kentucky Derby. Honing in on that luxurious edge that Ram trucks offer, this Kentucky Derby Edition is based on the Ram brand’s Limited trim and offers segment-leading capability and technology features. Ram has now been the Official Truck of the Churchill Downs and the Kentucky Derby for the past 10 years, so it’s only fitting that the brand introduces a limited edition model to commemorate the occasion.
Reid Bigland, head of Ram, said in a press release “The Kentucky Derby remains one of America’s most recognized sporting events. This hard-working truck is packed with exclusive technology, luxury and good looks that make it fit to wear the Kentucky Derby name.”
So what does the Ram Heavy Duty Kentucky Derby Edition offer that other trucks don’t? This Kentucky Derby Edition includes features exclusive trailer-towing content that makes them ideal tow vehicles, and other nifty features such as a 360-degree surround-view camera with trailer-reverse guidance technology, active hitch grid lines, fifth-wheel/gooseneck prep, bed step and DOT safety kit, and Forward Collision Warning-Plus with trailer braking. Additionally, this special edition Ram also includes Ram’s segment-leading Uconnect 12-inch infotainment touchscreen complete with SiriusXM 360L and navigation, blind-spot monitoring and power-retracting running boards.
Perks of the Kentucky Derby Edition continue with its premium full-leather front and rear seats – including rear reclining on the Mega Cab configuration. Wood and metal accent the interior as both materials are scattered throughout. Seating is a Black and Saddle Brown Hybrid of the Limited and Longhorn trims and it’s accented with medium Greystone stitching and piping. On the outside, the Kentucky Derby Edition features an exclusive, billet-appearance grille and is clad with body-colored bumpers. Prospective buyers can choose from seven different colors: Patriot Blue, Max Steel, Granite Crystal, Delmonico Red, Diamond Black Crystal, Pearl White, or Bright White.
Not all the Kentucky Derby Edition features are about aesthetics – the special trim is available on Ram 2500 or 3500 Heavy Duty models. Engine options range from the redesigned 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine that offers the best towing capability in the segment at 35,100 pounds or a 6.4-liter HEMI V8. There are even dual rear wheel models that offer rear park assist with fender coverage. The Kentucky Derby Edition goes on sale during the third quarter of 2019 with a limited production of 1,000 units.
