Possible Upgrades Coming to the 2021 Ram 1500
2021 model year Ram pickups aren’t that far off in the future, but much of the attention leading up to the model year debuts has actually been focused on the upcoming Hellcat-powered Ram Rebel TRX. The Raptor-fighting off-roader is definitely worth the hype, but it turns out that the 2021 Ram 1500 might have some updates up its sleeve as well. Here’s what changes experts are saying we can expect on the 2021 Ram 1500.
Given that it’s the fifth-generation Ram 1500’s third year in production, substantive changes are out of the question — buyers should expect subtle improvements instead. Spy shots of the 2021 Ram Quad Cab prototype indicate that there’ll be some new additional tech trickling down from the existing Ram Heavy-Duty models like the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500. The prototype in question features the same mirror arms as the Heavy-Duty models, indicating the possibility that the 2021 Ram 1500 will be equipped with the brand’s tow mirrors with a 360-degree camera system. This feature is fantastic for buyers who need to use their trucks to tow and haul.
Speaking of towing and hauling, the 2021 Ram 1500 seems to be gunning to upgrade its towing and hauling capabilities overall. Another new feature expected to trickle down to the 2021 model is a rear facing camera that’s mounted in the brake light. The TRX has been spotted testing with it and the feature is expected to carry over to the 2021 Ram 1500. Thanks to yet another 360-degree camera system, buyers can keep an eye on their cargo via their infotainment touchscreen display without having to crane their necks.
Another expected upgrade on the 2021 Ram 1500 includes a steering knob inside the cab, likely another standard addition on the Ram Rebel TRX as well. The steering knob helps the driver when backing up a trailer, and instead of having the driver maneuver where they want to place the trailer. Drivers only have to turn the dial in the direction they want the trailer to go and the feature takes care of the rest — similar to the features that self-park a vehicle, especially in tight spaces. There’s one pending addition that’ll make its way to the 2021 Ram 1500 eventually, and that’s the Uconnect 5 infotainment system. It’s destined to debut on the 2021 Chrysler Pacifica model, but it’s safe to assume that all 2021 Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) vehicles will feature the latest infotainment the automaker has to offer.
With the addition of these features, Ram could easily have the best half-ton pickup money can buy for another year in a row. In fact, the recently-introduced Ram 1500 EcoDiesel ranks best-in-class when it comes to towing, thanks to its 12,560 pounds rating.
