Differences in Dodge Models Equipped with The 6.4L SRT Engine
With the addition of the new Dodge Durango SRT to the 2018 Dodge lineup, there are a few Dodge vehicles powered by the SRT-built 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine. Aside from having the same engine, they all have unique characteristics that make each one better for different consumers.
Dodge Durango SRT
The new 2018 Dodge Durango SRT is the biggest of the three Dodge models equipped with the 6.4L HEMI V8 engine. The Durango SRT is fastest in the full-size SUV class and it has three-rows of seats and space seven passengers. The Durango SRT is paired to a TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission and together the engine and transmission produce 475 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Of the three vehicles equipped with the 6.4L engine, the Durango SRT is the only with all-wheel-drive and it is also the only one with a towing capacity, which is 8,700 pounds. As a much bigger and heavier car in comparison to the Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger, the Durango SRT is a bit slower (0-60 mph in 4.4 seconds), but as previously mentioned, it is the fastest in its class.
Dodge Charger and Challenger Models Equipped with SRT 392 Engine
Though the Charger and Challenger SRT 392 models are both equipped with the 6.4L HEMI V8 engine, and they both produce slightly more horsepower (485hp) and torque (470 lb-ft) than the and both models have the same 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.2 seconds. However, there are some differences between the two.
- The Dodge Charger is a four-door sedan and the Dodge Challenger is a two-door car, but both vehicles have seating for five passengers.
- The Challenger come standard with a TREMEC six-speed manual transmission, but the TorqueFlite eight-speed automatic transmission is available. The Dodge Charger comes standard with an AutoStick eight-speed automatic transmission.
- There are three Challenger trims equipped with the 6.4L HEMI V8 engine (Challenger 392 HEMI Scat Pack Shaker, Challenger T/A 392 and the Challenger SRT 392) and there are three Charger trims equipped with the 6.4L engine (Charger R/T Scat Pack, Charger Daytona 392 and Charger SRT 392).
- The Dodge Challenger SRT 392 accelerates from 0-60 mph in and the Dodge Charger SRT 392 accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds.
