2023 Ram 2500 Rebel Highlights
Ram enthusiasts have long clamered for a Power Wagon powered by a Cummins engine and with the 2023 Ram 2500 Rebel they’ve gotten as close to their wish as possible. Powered by the beloved turbo diesel engine, the Ram 2500 Rebel is more of a heavy-duty workhorse and less of a rock crawler. The Rebel and the Power Wagon coincide on a few things, including the fact that the only body choice for either pickup is a Crew Cab paired with a 6-foot-4 bed and a choice between five- or six-passenger seating.
Besides sharing the same body and configuration, the 2023 Ram 2500 Rebel features a BorgWarner part-time transfer case, as well as the choice between an electronic or manual transmission regardless of engine configuration. At the rear, the Ram 2500 Rebel features the same electronic limited-slip differential and electronic locker. 20-inch wheels come clad in 33-inch all-terrain rubber, while the Rebel also borrows a skid plate from the Power Wagon.
Here’s where the 2023 Ram 2500 Rebel shines in its own right: it features firmer rear springs, effectively zapping articulation and allowing for heavy-duty trucking. Payload tops out at 3,140 pounds, while the tow rating jumps to an impressive 16,870 pounds thanks to the engine that lies beneath the hood. On the road, the 2023 Ram 2500 Revel behaves every bit as a heavy-duty truck, with the hydraulic system managing to provide a quick response to make the ride less bumpy and keep the truck in a straight line. Superior ride comfort, improved handling, and better trailer control can all be attributed to the rear coil-over springs and the addition of the optional air suspension which dwarfs the competition.
Just like the other 2500 pickups in Ram’s lineup, the Rebel offers the same trailering aids, including numerous cameras like a rearview camera mirror that displays not only the usual view from the tailgate, but can also be split and help drivers cover their blindspots. Buyers even have the ability to plug in an accessory camera mounted to the back of the trailer to keep an eye on their cargo. There’s also a forward-facing camera acting as a spotter, which helps with visibility as the hood stands much taller than the average person. Pricing on the 2023 Ram 2500 Rebel starts at $68,940 (plus destination fee), but there are multiple options and packages available that can bring the cost higher. While a fully loaded Ram 2500 Rebel can certainly push into the luxury-priced pickup realm, buyers also have to account that they’re getting a pickup that can do a lot at once–extreme towing, off-roading, and hauling.
