October 20th, 2016 by

If you had to guess, which car do you think would win in a race, the Porsche 911 or Dodge Viper ACR? Road Show wanted to know, so they put both vehicles to the test and the results might surprise you.

To get the most accurate results, they did several races. In the end, the races were all too close to call a winner, so it’s fair to say they are neck and neck in terms of performance and speed. If it seems too good to be true, you can check out the entire video and story here. If that video still didn’t convince you the Viper ACR can compete with the best sports cars (specifically the 911), then the following comparison may.

Engine and Performance

The 2017 Dodge Viper ACR is equipped with a 8.4-liter V10 engine. There are two different engines for the Porsche 911, and the engine that comes with the vehicle depends on the trim (eight different options). The 911 Carrera, Targa 4, Targa 4S and Carrera 4, Carrera S and Carrera 4S trims all come with a 3.0-liter 6-cylinder engine, and the Turbo and Turbo S trims come with a Turbo 3.8-liter 6-cylinder engine. In the competition against the Viper ACR, the Porsche 911 Turbo S with the 3.8-liter engine was used.

The Viper ACR can produce an astonishing 645 horsepower and 600 lb-ft of torque. The Porsche 911 Turbo S can produce up to 580 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, both less than the Viper. In regards to track time, the Viper ACR goes 0-60 in just 3 seconds, and the 911 Turbo S in 2.5 seconds.

Exterior Performance Features

Of course the engine is the key factor to why a car can go fast, but any fan of performance cars knows that exterior features such as body shape, tires, and other factors have an impact on the performance as well. A performance car can have a crazy fast V10 engine, but it is nothing without the features needed for a smooth, safe, and great handling ride.

Some features of the Viper ACR that help with performance apart from it’s crazy V10 engine include, Bilstein DampTronic select shock absorbers that come with a street handling mode, Brembo brake system, and a aerodynamic body shape made with aluminum and carbon fiber material, and a race-inspired side exhaust. The Porsche 911 also has some of these performance features like air intake flaps, an aerodynamic and smartly designed bodyshape, lightweight construction, and ceramic composite brakes.

One big difference between the Dodge Viper ACR and Porsche 911 Turbo S is the price of both models. The Dodge Viper ACR is priced at just over $118,000, but the Porsche 911 Turbo S is priced over $188,000!

There you have it folks, the Dodge Viper ACR is a fine tuned, fast and beastly machine that can keep up with the best, even a 911 Turbo S. Do you love the Viper as much as we do? Check out our Viper inventory at University Dodge here.
