Trims and Configurations

The 2018 Ram 2500 & 3500 Heavy Duty lineup includes more than eight trims. The Tradesman is a no-frills heavy-duty pickup that is ideal for people that need a truck without a lot of extras and that can take a beating. There is also the Ram 2500 Power Wagon, a truck built for off-roading, and the Limited Tungsten Edition, which is the most luxurious heavy-duty truck on the market.

In addition to having a variety of trim levels, consumers have a lot of options available when it comes to choosing the truck’s build and that is especially important when it comes to shopping for a heavy-duty truck like the Ram 2500 and Ram 3500. Ram heavy-duty pickup trucks are available with a few different powertrain options, three different cab sizes, two truck bed lengths, the option of two-wheel-drive or four-wheel-drive and a number of axle ratios. All of those factors have a significant impact on a truck’s towing capabilities, so it’s important for consumers to know what options are available.

Truck Cab Options

Ram 2500/3500 HD trucks are available in three cab sizes, the regular cab, crew cab and mega cab. The regular cab is a two-door cab that provides seating for 2-3 passengers depending on the truck’s seat configuration. The mega cab and crew cab are both 4-door trucks that provide seating for 5 or 6 passengers depending on the truck’s seat configuration. Of the three truck cab sizes the mega cab is the biggest, and it offers front seat passengers 41 inches of legroom and backseat passengers 43.3 inches of legroom. The crew cab offers front seat passengers 41 inches of legroom and backseat passengers 40.3 inches of legroom and the regular cab offers 41 inches of legroom for front seat passengers.

Truck Bed Options

The Ram 2500 and 3500 are both available with two truck bed length options, a 6’4” truck bed or an 8’ truck bed. The mega cab is only available with a 6’4” truck bed, and the crew cab and regular cab are both available with a 6’4” or an 8’ truck bed.

Axle Ratio Options

Axle ratio is an important factor when it comes to finding the perfect truck because it affects towing capabilities and fuel economy. While a truck with a larger axle ratio has a higher maximum towing capacity than the same truck that has a smaller axle ratio, but the truck with the larger axle ratio has a lower fuel economy, and both of those qualities are important for a buyer to consider before buying a heavy-duty truck. Ram offers three different factory axle ratios, a 3.42, 3.73, and 4.10, and at University Dodge Ram we can make adjustments to provide consumers with larger or smaller axle ratio if desired.

Engine Options and Towing Capacities

The 2018 Ram 2500 and 3500 are available with some of the most powerful engines on the market, including the 6.7-liter Cummins Turbo Diesel engine that gives the Ram 3500 a class-leading 930 lb-ft of torque and a 30,000-pound towing capacity when equipped with a fifth-wheel hitch.

The toolbox upfit includes metal shelving frames, ladder racks and special tool boxes that attach to the truck bed and that allows workers more opportunities for keeping cargo in the truck bed when traveling.

The service capsule upfit is a more secure way to store items because it almost transforms the truck bed into a huge mobile tool box. The service capsule upfit has a number of shelves and compartments that make it easy and convenient for workers to quickly access necessary tools.
