The Dodge Durango SRT Hellcat Lives On Another Model Year
The Dodge family will bid farewell to a couple of its members by the end of this year, as production of the gasoline-powered Dodge Charger and Dodge Challenger are coming to a close. However, the era of the HEMI engine is not completely at its end. The Dodge Durango is set to make a comeback in the 2024 model year, offering both of its high-performance trim levels.
2024 Dodge Durango Lineup
The 2024 Dodge Durango lineup encompasses six distinct trim levels: SXT, GT, Citadel, R/T, SRT 392, and SRT Hellcat. The latter two trims take the spotlight, delivering robust V-8 performance to this three-row SUV. The SRT 392 variant is equipped with the 6.4-liter Apache V-8 engine, generating 475 hp and 470 lb-ft of torque specifically for the Durango model. Stepping it up a notch, the supercharged 6.2-liter Hellcat V-8 cranks out an impressive 710 hp and 645 lb-ft of torque. Both engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive.
With Dodge’s muscle cars transitioning to the electric realm post-December 31 (2023), the Durango platform will be the final bastion for the Hellcat powertrain. Meanwhile, the Apache V-8 is set to continue its duty in the 2024 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon 392, alongside its role in the Dodge SUV. Additionally, Ram has confirmed that the Hellcat-powered TRX will see its last production year in 2024.
Originally, the Durango SRT Hellcat was slated as an exclusive model for the 2021 year, with a limited production run of approximately 3,000 units. This made the SUV even scarcer than the Demon and Demon 170 models. Despite initially going on a brief hiatus for the 2022 model year, the Durango SRT Hellcat managed to persist. For the 2024 model year, the vehicle receives several updates, including the introduction of standard blind spot monitoring across the entire lineup. Notably, this upgraded system is capable of detecting and monitoring trailers when the optional Trailer Tow Group is installed. Given the Durango’s status as the class leader in towing performance, this enhancement is a welcome addition. While pricing details for the updated lineup are not currently available, they should be released in the near future as ordering books are prepared.
