Throughout its  history, Dodge has earned a reputation for its American-made vehicles, specifically for its production of iconic muscle cars. However, it may come as a surprise to many that there’s only one Dodge model currently being assembled in the U.S.–the Dodge Durango. Additionally, the HEMI V8 engines responsible for powering Dodge’s muscle car lineup, including on the Durango, are manufactured in Saltillo, Mexico. As for the rest of the Dodge lineup, manufacturing locations differ and are more intricate and varied. Ever since its redesign in 2011, Dodge has consistently manufactured the Durango SUV at its Detroit Complex, proudly maintaining production within the U.S. When it comes to the components that make up the Durango, an impressive 71 percent of them are sourced from manufacturers located in the U.S. or Canada. This commitment to domestic sourcing showcases Dodge’s dedication to supporting local industries and economies.

Each year, Cars.com assesses and ranks the most American-made models available in the automotive industry. In 2021, the Durango ranked 36th, but for 2022 and 2023 the model significantly climbed the ranks under the 20th spot. Additionally, when the Kogod School of Business conducted its own rankings, two trims of the V6-powered Durango, namely the Durango GT Blacktop AWD and Durango Citadel, tied for sixth place. However, the V8-powered Durango slipped down in the ratings because its components are primarily assembled in Mexico.

The Brampton Assembly Plant, located outside of Toronto, Canada, is where the iconic Dodge Charger and Challenger are assembled by Stellantis. This manufacturing facility has been the production home for both models since their revival in 2005, having been inherited by Chrysler after the automaker’s acquisition of American Motors Corporation (AMC) back in 1987. Spanning across 269 acres, the Brampton Assembly Plant currently employs a dedicated workforce exceeding 2,944 union auto workers. Following the discontinuation of the Charger and Challenger later this year (2023), Dodge will temporarily close the Brampton Assembly Plant for approximately three years. The close will facilitate the retooling of the plant to accommodate production of next-generation electric vehicles.

In contrast, the Dodge Hornet, a distinctive crossover model, is not manufactured within the United States. Instead, it is assembled alongside the Alfa Romeo Tonale at a production facility located in Naples, Italy. Although the Hornet boasts its own unique powertrain options, its assembly process is integrated with that of the Tonale, showcasing the collaborative efforts within the Stellantis family of brands.
