In March, both Dodge and Ram saw new vehicle sales increase by 11 percent, giving Fiat Chrysler Automobiles US (FCA US) a good boost for their total sales in March. The increase of sales is an indicator that purchasing SUVs, pickup trucks and minivans are still a trend among consumers.

In comparison to the sales from March 2015, Ram saw a sales increase in sales across all of their models. Surprisingly, Ram’s biggest sellers were the brand’s two commercial models, the ProMaster City and the ProMaster Van. Throughout March, 1,814 ProMaster City models were sold, making for a 260 percent increase in sales from March 2015.

The biggest sales increases among Dodge models were the Dodge Grand Caravan, which saw sales increase by 117%, and the Dodge Durango, which saw an increase of 25%. The Durango’s 25 percent increase was its best March sales performance since 2005.

“As consumers continue to shift their buying preference toward utility vehicles and trucks, they are walking directly into the FCA wheelhouse,” Reid Bigland, FCA’s head of sales in North America, said in a statement.

Aside from the change in buying trends to SUVs and trucks, the Compass is an attractive purchase because it is fuel efficient and with a starting MSRP of $19,595, it is also affordable to purchase or lease. The Compass also comes standard with some great convenience features like flat fold seats for extra cargo space when needed, 1 year of free SiriusXM satellite radio service and a remote USB port.

Despite a slump in sales in the three other FCA brands, Chrysler, Fiat and Alfa Romeo ,the excellent increase in sales for both Dodge and Ram models combined with Jeep’s 15 percent sales increase, FCA US saw their total March sales increase by 8.1 percent.

With this month’s introduction of the the all-new 2017 Chrysler Pacifica minivan to Chrysler dealerships, Chrysler may start to see sales improve.  Not only are minivans currently a popular choice among consumers, but the Pacifica also offers unparalleled levels of efficiency and functionality in the minivan sector.
