Take advantage of the last few weeks before school starts. Get the kids in the Dodge Grand Caravan and check out these local events held across South Florida.

Miami Spice

Aug. 1-Sept. 30, at participating restaurants in Miami

To encourage locals to get out and try different restaurants across South Florida, over 243 restaurants in Miami-Dade County have joined together to develop Miami Spice, two months of special dining experiences and prices. In addition to prix-fixed menu dinner and lunch specials at each restaurant, there are also hotel packages and discounts, as well as other food events held during Miami Spice. Key West Lobsterfest

August 11-14, various Key West Locations

Key West Lobsterfest is a food fest held to celebrate the beginning of Lobster season. This three-day long event consists of parties, concerts, brunches, and events that take place across the island of Key West. 3rd Annual Tallahassee Southern Extreme Ram Rodeo  

August 19-20 in Tallahassee

Alright, this one isn’t local, but we wanted to include it because we love a good rodeo. The third annual rodeo event will include two nights of exciting rodeo and Western competitions by experienced cowboys and cowgirls. Both nights gates open at 6 p.m. and rodeo events begin at 8 p.m. There will also be a comedy show, and a meet and greet with the cowboys and cowgirls. Visit bit.ly/2aFBuQR.

Dancin’ in the Streets

August 20 in Downtown Stuart

This event is a fundraiser to support Stuart Main Street and the Downtown Business Association of Stuart. The event is a huge music festival featuring headliners The Outlaws. The whole street closes up for this event to allow for “Dancin’ in the Street.” There will be six different stages and performances by many bands for an entire day of family fun. Free Admission to National Parks for the NPS Centennial

August 25, various national park locations in South Florida

August 25 is the National Park Service’s 100th birthday! To celebrate and encourage people to go explore the parks, the NPS has made admission free for the day. Lucky for us in South Florida, we have four  national parks in our own backyard, the Dry Tortugas National Park, the Everglades National Park, Biscayne National Park and the Big Cypress National Preserve. So get out there and explore, take pictures and share them on social media with the hashtag, #FindYourPark to show your support of the National Park Service. Visit nationalparks.org.

Viernes Culturales Arts & Culture Festival

August 26 and the last Friday of every month, SW 8th St. from 13th to 17th Avenues in Miami

Viernes Culturales Arts & Culture Festival also known as “cultural Fridays” is sponsored by the non-profit organization Viernes Culturales. The goal of this family friendly event is to support and demonstrate the cultures of South Florida residents. The festival’s activities consist of live music, art galleries, arts and crafts and more.
