Introducing the All-New Dodge Hornet R/T
Dodge is back in the headlines thanks to its all-new 2023 Dodge Hornet model, determined to deliver the quickest, fastest, and most powerful compact utility vehicle (CUV) below the $30,000 price tag. The 2023 Dodge Hornet is a segment disruptor thanks to its distinctive combination of muscular styling complete with best-in-class performance. Dodge introduced the 2023 Hornet at the M1 Concourse in Pontiac, Michigan, as part of its Dodge Speed Week events.
“The Dodge brand’s electrified transformation has left the starting line, with the all-new Dodge Hornet R/T representing the first electrified performance vehicle from Dodge. The Dodge Hornet is poised to jolt the mainstream compact utility vehicle segment with looks, feel, and performance that are unmistakably Dodge. Hornet shakes up the status quo with aggressive Dodge styling, the most power in the segment from our multi-energy lineup, the best driving dynamics, a full lineup of segment-exclusive performance features, the best standard technology, as well as available Direct Connection factory-backed performance upgrades. And this is just the start of the Dodge brand’s electrification journey,” said Tim Kuniskis, Dodge Brand Chief Executive Officer–Stellantis.
The all-new Dodge Hornet features distinctive Dodge DNA, including a hood and front fascia design, which brings Dodge’s daredevil attitude to life. Buyers can find integrated heat extractors that add a performance-focused appearance and a front grille featuring a “mail slot” -type opening that adds even more sculpting to the front fascia. Following the design cues of the Dodge lineup, the Hornet’s front fascia is flanked by two small inserts that invoke a muscular feel. Dodge also added a new exterior Hornet badge on the fender to celebrate the revival of the nameplate–first used in the 1950s and in 2006 on a concept vehicle.
On the inside, the all-new Dodge Hornet offers a driver-focused design with center stack controls and display screens that are “tipped” to be more driver-friendly. Red stitching accents are standard on the Hornet’s black interior, while accents on the vents and center switches add technical details that enhance the model’s overall performance tilt.
Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV
Dodge’s first foray into electrification comes with the Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV. With a segment-leading 285 horsepower rating and 383 lb-f of torque to boot, the Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV is powered by a 1.3-liter, all-aluminum engine. The Dodge Hornet R/T offers more than 30 miles of all-electric range thanks to an electric induction motor that powers the rear axle. Power optimization comes courtesy of a 15.5-kWh lithium-ion battery pack that features a refrigerant gas cooling circuit tasked with keeping the battery at an optimal temperature. A full battery charge can be achieved in just 2.5 hours when using a Level 2 charger. The Dodge Hornet R/T PHEV’s powertrain is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
