The upcoming Ram 1500 REV electric truck is rapidly emerging as one of the most highly-anticipated electric vehicles on the market. This innovative truck is poised to offer cutting-edge technology, exceptional performance, and remarkable towing capacity, precisely meeting the expectations of Ram Truck enthusiasts. Following the teaser of the first Ram electric truck in 2022, an eye-catching concept was unveiled early in 2023. Shortly thereafter, Stellantis, the parent company of Ram Trucks, officially introduced a more production-ready Ram 1500 REV, slated for release sometime between 2024 and 2025. For those expecting the automaker to water down the truck’s prowess with electrification, you may be surprised. Here are some key points to keep in mind as we eagerly anticipate its arrival.
Unmatched Towing Capability
Ram is setting its sights on delivering the electric vehicle (EV) industry’s premier towing capability with the 1500 REV. The company is targeting an impressive maximum towing capacity of 14,000 pounds and a payload capacity of 2,700 pounds. This surpasses the towing capacity of any other electric truck currently available and significantly outperforms the 7,700—10,000-pound limit of the F-150 Lightning. Even in its highest trim, Chevy’s upcoming Silverado EV can only manage to tow 10,000 pounds, making the 1500 REV a standout in the EV truck category.
Eliminates Range Anxiety
Being one of the later entrants among major automakers into the electric truck arena has its advantages, notably an insight into the competition’s vulnerabilities. Specifically, the Ram team has honed in on the issue of driving range, particularly when these trucks are put to the test with tasks like towing, which can significantly impact range.
The forthcoming Ram 1500 electric truck is set to address this concern with an impressive range, offering two distinct battery options. The baseline choice for each trim level features a 168.0 kWh battery, touted to provide approximately 350 miles on a single charge. For those seeking even more extended range, a larger 229 kWh battery pack is available, offering an estimated 500 miles of range. While this is a projection, it’s worth noting that as the gas-powered Ram transitions from the V8 Hemi to a twin-turbocharged “Hurricane” V6 in 2024 to improve fuel efficiency, achieving nearly 500 miles in its electric variant is a noteworthy achievement.
Trim Levels & More
Ram, known for its diverse lineup including the Ram Rebel and TRX, is fully committed to its electric truck venture. The Ram REV will be no exception, offering an impressive array of seven distinct trim levels to cater to a wide range of preferences. During the concept’s announcement, Ram made it clear that all-wheel drive will be available across the entire lineup, alongside two battery configuration options. The seven trim levels offer varying degrees of luxury, style, and optional features. While the exact differentiations between each model are yet to be fully disclosed, buyers can take their pick from the base Tradesman model or explore higher-tier choices such as BigHorn, Laramie, Rebel, Long Horn, Limited, and Tungsten.
In addition to these seven trims, Ram hinted at the potential release of an eighth trim, the Ram 1500 REV XR, which is expected to redefine range expectations. Furthermore, it wouldn’t be surprising if, around 10 to 14 months following the initial launch, Ram introduces an exceptional 1500 REV TRX package. If that materializes, it might incorporate artificial engine sounds to exude a highly aggressive persona, similar to the forthcoming electric Dodge Charger SRT EV.
Performance
As mentioned earlier, Ram will exclusively provide two battery pack configurations, each delivering approximately 350 or 500 miles of range. However, these options come with distinct specifications, performance characteristics, power outputs, and towing capabilities. According to the official press release, the 168 kWh battery is expected to generate an impressive 654 horsepower and a robust 620 lb-ft of torque. This substantial power output is projected to enable a 0-60 mph acceleration time of 4.4 seconds and a towing capacity of up to 14,000 pounds. Unfortunately, Stellantis has chosen to keep the specifications for the larger battery model under wraps, hidden behind the iconic Ram insignia.
Additionally, the Ram 1500 REV will feature all-wheel drive (AWD) with active four-wheel steering, enhancing maneuverability. It will also boast an adjustable air-ride suspension, allowing for improved aerodynamics on the highway or increased ground clearance for off-road adventures. Furthermore, a powered frunk with an impressive 15 cu.-ft. of storage will be available, setting a best-in-class standard.
