Durango SRT Named one of the “Best Family Cars for 2019” by Digital Trends

September 12th, 2019 by

Congratulations are in order for Dodge and Chrysler as Digital Trends recently named two Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) models to their “Best Family Cars for 2019” rankings. The Dodge Durango SRT and Chrysler Pacifica earned the title of best performance family car and best car for large families. Awards are based on technology, driving pleasure, and practicality. “The Pacifica proves that minivans are still the best option for buyers who need to haul a lot of people or stuff. The Dodge Durango SRT shows that family cars can be fun and quick. Aside from its awesome HEMI power, the Durango SRT also ticks practical family-car boxes,” Digital Trends said.

Vehicles are put through a series of tests by the Digital Trends automotive team. Interior and exterior quality are judged based on the expertise and experience of the tester while also judging the vehicle’s category and price range. Infotainment and other entertainment technology features are also thoroughly tested, along with most of the advanced safety features that are tested in a controlled environment. Test drivers also spend numerous hours behind the wheel of these vehicles. Real-world testing requires them to drive on back roads, highways, as well as on race tracks and off-road when necessary.

2019 Durango SRT

The 2019 Durango SRT is a five-door SUV that’s more powerful than a lot of the quiet sedans that are buzzing by. Powered by a 392 HEMI V8 that generates 475 horsepower, the Durango SRT will make it through the quarter-mile in about 12.9 seconds, while zero-to-60 mph takes a mere 4.4 seconds — figures are verified by the National Hot Rod Association. The SUV isn’t all work and no play either as the six-passenger Durango SRT has towing capability up to 8,700 pounds. There’s even a trailer-tow group that includes a class IV receiver hitch, a wiring harness, trailer brake control, and a compact spare tire all for $1,195.

Upgrades on the 2019 Durango SRT include red seat belts, Brembo brakes with two-piece rotors, a 19-speaker Harman Kardon sound system, and even 20-inch wheels. The wheels on the Durango SRT are available  in matte Vapor or Brass Monkey finish to add to the Durango’s menacing design. Advanced safety tech on the Durango SRT includes Adaptive Cruise Control, Forward Collision Warning, and Lane Departure Warning. The Durango SRT has a starting MSRP of $63,245 (plus destination fee,) but Dodge’s ongoing incentive Power Dollars program can help shave off $10 per horsepower, meaning a savings worth $4,750 awaits buyers.

There’s no expiration date as of yet for the Power Dollars promotion, but Tim Kuniskis, FCA’s head of passenger cars for North America, issued the following statement about the program: “Since bringing the Charger and Challenger back to the market, Dodge has put 485 million horsepower into the hands of our loyal enthusiasts. The goal is to grow to a half-billion horsepower before the end of the year.”
