Does Your Vehicle Have an Open Recall?

While auto manufacturers do their best to ensure the car they develop is built up to the highest standards possible, unfortunately, unforeseen circumstances will result in a recall. The most common type is a safety recall, caused when either an auto manufacturer, auto manufacturer supplier, or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) determines that a safety-related issue exists. According to Mopar, Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) US regards the safety and security of their customers and families of the utmost importance and has put together a set of frequently asked questions (FAQ) to assist them in the recall process better.

What is a Safety Recall?

It’s important to keep in mind that once a vehicle receives a recall notice, it doesn’t necessarily mean that the entire car is defective. Safety recalls include any issue encountered with an FCA US product concerning the safety operations of the vehicle or, most importantly, the safety of the passengers. The best part? Even if the car is out of warranty or the consumer isn’t the original owner, FCA US will correct the issue free of charge.

How do I know if my vehicle is involved in a recall?

Once a safety recall is detected, automakers are required to inform their customers by direct mail. Customers can also find information about safety recalls through the print and broadcast media. The notice letter outlines the exact nature of the issue and describes which part or system that explicitly needs repair or replacement. The recall notice will also explain what actions will be taken to resolve the concern and encourage the owner to return their vehicle to an authorized dealer to have the repair fixed.

Owners can also go on the Mopar website and check the status of their vehicle and verify if there are any open recalls for that specific vehicle. To determine the recall status, the customer will need their vehicle identification number (VIN), located on the VIN plate on the dashboard of their car. Lastly, owners are not required to bring any form of documentation with them.

What is the warranty on the repair if the completed recalled component fails again?

There are specific instances where repaired issues can return. If the consumer happens to discover a problem that was previously corrected, the situation will be reviewed, and FCA US will repair the vehicle for free. Let’s say that as a result of the recall, unanticipated expenses have recently come to light, what now?
