University Dodge - Dodge Crate Engine

Dodge is actively involved in the sale of crate engines, much like its counterparts in the Big Three automotive manufacturers. However, Dodge distinguishes itself by displaying a particularly strong commitment to this aspect of its business. The company has established a comprehensive enterprise dedicated to the sale of engines and aftermarket performance components, showcased in its Direct Connection catalog and distributed through its network of Power Broker dealers. Recently, Dodge has introduced several new products, including a pair of six-cylinder Hurricane crate engines. Nevertheless, the standout offering is unquestionably the Hellephant C170, which serves as the formidable 1,025-horsepower heart of the new Demon 170.

Let’s not overshadow the smaller engines; they also deserve recognition and are part of a broader selection recently unveiled by the automaker. The most potent “HurriCrate” is referred to as the Cat 3, generating an impressive 550 horsepower. There’s also a more modest 420-horsepower alternative known as the Cat 1. Their respective price points are approximately $6,500 and $9,000. A variety of other V8 options are available, catering to various price ranges both above and below these models.

As expected, the priciest engine in the lineup is the previously mentioned Hellephant C170. It comes with a complete package, and the price tag is set at $27,695. Alternatively, Dodge offers the long block alone for $18,995, which omits components like the 3.0-liter IHI supercharger, exhaust system, and certain accessories. However, it still provides buyers with the robust core of the engine. Think of it as a 6.2-liter Hellcat Redeye engine with an extra dose of power.

From this point onward, the prices become more affordable, yet the performance remains impressively high. The 807-horsepower 6.2-liter Redeye long block is priced at $12,995, while the standard Hellcat’s 717-horsepower 6.2-liter comes in at $9,495. If you opt for the naturally aspirated 392 crate with 485 horsepower, it’s available for $6,995. There’s even the 5.7-liter 345 V8 long block, which offers a robust 385 horsepower, at a budget-friendly $4,495.

Prospective buyers can easily access the catalog featuring all of these engines on Dodge’s Direct Connection website. The highly-anticipated C170 crate, which is the flagship offering, is expected to hit the market in the first quarter of 2024. Additionally, Direct Connection offers an array of other components, including drivetrain parts, superchargers, suspension enhancements, and various performance-oriented accessories.
