Engine Type

The 2022 Ram 1500 is available in the following different trims: Tradesman, Big Horn, Laramie, Rebel, Limited Longhorn, and Limited — and numerous configurations, including Crew Cab, Regular Cab with truck beds that range from 5’7” to 6’4”. Ram Truck offers buyers three different engines to choose from, including the standard 3.6-liter Pentastar V6, the optional 5.7-liter HEMI V8, and the all-new EcoDiesel. All engines are paired with the truck maker’s mild-hybrid eTorque system, although the 5.7 HEMI can be had without it. An eight-speed automatic transmission is standard, regardless of engine choice. The Ram 1500 riding and handling shines thanks in large part to the various suspension options available. Unlike rivals with traditional leaf-spring suspension setups, Ram Truck offers buyers several options such as the standard coil suspension and the optional air springs suspension. Towing figures are impressive at 12,750 pounds, with a payload up to 2,320 pounds as well. The Ram 1500 Crew Cab has a smaller towing capacity and tops out at 11,500 pounds. Fuel economy varies depending on a specific pickup’s configuration, but the V6 engine is estimated by the EPA to yield 20 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway, while the V8 engine yields 17 mpg in the city and 23 mpg on the highway. The EcoDiesel engine is deemed extremely efficient thanks to its 22 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.

What’s New for 2022?

For 2022, Ram expanded its lineup and configurations options. There’s a new sporty G/T package on the Laramie and Rebel trims, along with a rugged BackCountry Edition, and a top-tier 10th Anniversary Edition that carries over from the previous model year and elevates the Limited trim with an even richer interior, special badging, and an exclusive Blue Shade paint color. The newly-introduced G/T Package includes a cold-air intake, paddle shifters, unique exhaust system, and a console-mounted shifter. The BackCountry Edition adds an off-road package based on the Big Horn and Lone Star trims.

Designed to stand out, the 2022 Ram 1500 features LED headlights, an available class-exclusive RamBox Cargo Management System with a bed divider and extender, wheel-to-wheel side steps, and a power-release tailgate that works with the simple push of a button. Buyers can also opt for the newly-added extra-wide trailer-tow mirrors that make towing a breeze thanks to the additional visibility they provide. Known for having the best-in-class infotainment, the 2022 Ram 1500 introduces the revamped Uconnect 5 infotainment system. An 8.4-inch touchscreen display is standard, but a massive — not to mention impressive — 12-inch touchscreen display is available on all trims but the entry-level Tradesman. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities are standard, while there’s an available Mobile Hotspot service as well. Navigation and SiriusXM Satellite Radio are also available as upgrades for those buyers looking for a complete infotainment service.
