2022 Dodge Durango Highlights
The Dodge Durango’s future feels like it’s on the line right now, with the rumor mill churning about its impending demise and the automaker’s silence on the model’s future. Experts believe that if the three-row muscle SUV only has two model years left, it makes sense to expect very few changes to the model’s lineup. Knowing the Durango SRT Hellcat was a halo product, 2022 leaves buyers with only five trims to choose from. Those are the entry-level SXT, GT, R/T, Citadel, and the HEMI-powered SRT 392. For the 2022 model year, every Dodge Durango now features standard blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-path detection. In the past, the entry-level Durango SXT was barred from having these options, while the rest of the lineup tacked on an additional $495 for the features.
Additionally, the SXT trim also now features a standard third row, upping the seating capacity from five passengers to seven. In the front row, the driver’s seat now comes standard with power. Dodge also added ParkSense rear park assist and bright roof rails as well. Meanwhile, the GT trim now has heated front seats, a power liftgate, a heated steering wheel, and remote start. Dodge also expanded its Plus Group Package to the SXT, GT and R/T trims. However, Dodge made no mention of a 2022 Durango SXT Plus — a trim that currently exists — thus experts suspect it may be going away.
The aforementioned Plus Package gains Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop, Lane Departure Warning Plus, and Advanced Brake Assist. As for the GT Plus trim, it adds more equipment to include rain-sensing automatic wipers, leather seats with suede inserts, second-row heated seats, bright cargo area scuff plates, and seat memory. This time around the R/T Plus adds Nappa leather with perforated inserts and accent stitching, Forward Collision warning with Active Braking, a Premium Interior Package with a wrapped instrument panel, Harman Kardon premium audio, bright cargo area scuff plates, a sunroof, and a Dinamica soft-touch headliner.
Dodge also offers a Blacktop Package on the SXT, GT, and R/T and it adds an SRT performance hood and all-season tires. Mopar Insiders reported that Dodge was cutting down when it comes to exterior color choices. While the lineup currently has 11 exterior shade options, just four are said to remain — White Knuckle, Octane Red, DB Black, and Destroyer Grey.
