This time around, the 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn it’s being crowned the “Truck of Texas”, among other prestigious titles, at the Texas Auto Writers Association’s Texas Truck Rodeo. “Being named the Texas Auto Writers Association’s Truck of Texas is the highest honor in the world’s largest pickup market,” said Reid Bigland, Head of Ram Brand and U.S. Sales; Chairman, President, and CEO, FCA Canada Inc. “The all-new 2019 Ram 1500 offers the best combination of class exclusive features, refinement capability, and efficiency. Winning this award is a challenge, but the Ram 1500 is well suited to the hard-working needs of Texas truck buyers.”
The “Truck of Texas” award, that was officially presented to the 2019 Ram 1500 Laramie Longhorn on October 16th, 2018 at the culmination of the Texas Truck Rodeo, took two days of evaluations conducted by 69 journalists. After driving 57 vehicles, the journalists voted on winners across a range of consumer categories. Surprisingly enough, the writers faced some weather condition challenges like torrential rain during the voting process. As a result, the remainder of the event was forced to move on to the on-road evaluations due to safety concerns. Yet, the journalists stated that they actually enjoyed the little time they had driving the four-wheel-drive (4WD) vehicles on Texas’ slippery hills and deep mud evaluations.
“TAWA journalists know their trucks, and they picked the new Ram as the clear winner,” said Michael Marrs, TAWA president. “Our members said the truck performed well even in challenging weather conditions during the Hill Country floods this year. It was also noteworthy that Fiat Chrysler Automobiles swept all the overall awards at this year’s competition.”
Founded in 1985, the Texas Auto Writers Association, Inc. was comprised of automotive journalists who wanted to deliver an avenue of professional growth, development, and networking. By looking to create an automotive event that was unique to Texas, these professionals developed the TAWA Truck Rodeo. Since 1992, Truck Rodeos have taken place in several cities throughout Texas like San Antonio, Houston, Dallas, Fort Worth, Granbury, Spring Brand, and now in Dripping Springs. In 2003, TAWA designed an event exclusively for vehicles that aren’t qualified to enter the Truck Rodeo such as sedans and sports cars.
