Available since 2009, the Dodge Journey is a versatile crossover, and unlike other Dodge models, the Journey has a unique rugged style. The Dodge Journey is an affordable seven-passenger crossover that offers drivers a capable and safe ride in various terrains. Offering plenty of standard features, 2018 Journey models also have some new features like the  standard third-row feature on all Journey trims.

As previously mentioned, the Dodge Journey is a versatile vehicle that can be customized in many ways. Offered in four trim levels — Journey SE, SXT, Crossroad and GT, the 2018 Dodge Journey is also available with two engine options and have the choice between all-wheel-drive (AWD) or front-wheel-drive (FWD). Lastly, all trims now come standard equipped with a third-row which makes this a perfect choice for those bigger families (or tailgaters).

Engine

A standard 2.4-liter I4 DOHC 16-valve dual VVT engine paired to a four-speed automatic transmission is only available on the Dodge Journey SE, SXT and Crossroad trims. The 2.4L produces 173 horsepower and 166 lb-ft of torque and it gives the Journey an average fuel economy of 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.

The Dodge Journey GT is equipped with a 3.6-liter V6 24-valve VVT engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. The 3.6L engine delivers 282 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque and it gives the Journey a maximum towing capacity of up to 2,500 pounds.

Mechanical

The 2018 Dodge Journey is equipped with a 525-amp maintenance-free battery and firm feel power steering. Standard on the Journey GT is an engine oil cooler, while an engine block heater is optional. The Dodge Journey SE and SXT trims are standard equipped with a normal duty suspension, while a touring suspension is a standard feature on the Journey Crossroad and optional on the Journey SXT. Lastly, the Journey GT is standard with a high performance suspension.

Interior

Seating Configurations

Part of the charm and practicality of the 2018 Dodge Journey are the available seating configurations. The interior cabin is incredibly spacious and in 2018 all Dodge Journey models come standard with three rows of seats and seating for seven passengers. Furthermore, there are 50/50 fold reclining seats in the third row and 40/60 tilt slide seats in the second row, and when both the second- and third-row seats are folded down, there is a total cargo volume of 67.6 cubic feet.

Interior Materials

Premium cloth low-back bucket seats and a driver’s seat height adjusters are standard features included in the Dodge Journey SE and SXT, and leather seats with sport mesh inserts and leather-trimmed bucket seats come standard on the Journey Crossroad. Additionally, the Dodge Journey GT offers standard leather-trimmed seats with perforated panels and heated front seats. All trim levels across the board share a front passenger seat belt alert, height adjustable front shoulder belts, and low-back bucket seats.

Convenience Features

Fortunately for consumers, the majority of the convenience features on the 2018 Dodge Journey are standard on all trims. A 12-volt auxiliary, center console and front/rear power outlets are standard equipped and placed throughout the interior cabin of all trims. Additional convenience features include, cargo tie down loops, cowl mounted hood release, door sill scuff pads, driver and passenger lower LED lamps, electronic vehicle information center and a premium instrument cluster with display screen. The Dodge Journey Crossroad and GT trims come standard with auto-dimming rear view mirror, cargo net, interior observation mirror, overhead console plus passenger assist handles. The Journey GT trim comes standard with a 115-volt aux power outlet, dimpled leather-wrapped steering wheel and shift knob, and power front windows with 1-touch up/down feature, while a Mopar cargo tray is optional exclusively on the Journey GT.

 

Exterior

Wheels

Each of the 2018 Dodge Journeys trims have their own assigned wheels, other size wheels are either available optional or not at all. For instance, the base trim, the Journey SE, comes standard with 17-inch x 6.5-inch steel wheels and offer the option to upgrade to 17-inch x 6.5-inch aluminum wheels. The Journey SXT is also standard with 17-inch x 6.5-inch aluminum wheels, while giving consumers the option to upgrade to 19-inch x 7.0-inch aluminum chrome clad wheels or 19-inch x 7.0-inch gloss black aluminum wheels. Exclusively offered as standard on the Journey Crossroad includes 19-inch x 7.0-inch hyper black aluminum wheels and 19-inch x 7.0-inch painted aluminum wheels are standard only on the Journey GT trim. Finally, P225/65R17 BSW all season touring tires come standard on the Journey SE and SXT trims, while 225/55R19 BSW all season touring tires are standard on the Journey Crossroad, GT, and as an option on the Journey SXT trim.

Lighting Features

The 2018 Dodge Journey may not offer a ton of interior lighting features, however, with the features that are offered, consumers won’t be disappointed. The Dodge Journey SE, SXT, Crossroad and GT trims share headlamps with turn-off time delay, illuminated cup holders and a liftgate flood lamp as standard features. The Dodge Journey Crossroad and Journey GT trims are standard equipped with front and rear aimable LED lamps and sun visors with illuminated vanity mirrors, while the Journey SE, SXT and Crossroad share front courtesy and map lamps.

Convenience Features

Similar to the previous features mentioned above, the 2018 Dodge Journey trim levels are also standard equipped with a good amount of exterior convenience features, some of which include — body colored door handles, exterior mirrors with a heating element, rear window wiper/washer and removable short mast antenna. The Journey SE exclusively offers black exterior mirrors and black power heated mirrors with a manual fold way feature. The Journey SE and SXT trims are standard with black side roof rails, which is also available as an option on the Journey GT. Power heated exterior mirrors with manual fold way and body-color exterior mirrors are standard only on the Journey SXT, Crossroad and GT trims. Optional features available only on the Journey SXT include door sill guards by Mopar, dual bright exhaust trips and splash guards by Mopar.

The 2018 Dodge Journey offers a refreshing take on tech features because the Journey focuses on delivering consumers easy-to-use infotainment features. All four trim levels come standard with an audio jack input for mobile devices, premium instrument cluster, remote USB port and steering wheel mounted audio controls.

The Dodge Journey SE and SXT trim levels come standard equipped with radio 4.3 and a 4.3-inch touchscreen display, and the Journey SXT can be upgraded with Uconnect 3 with 8.4-inch display. Standard equipped on the Dodge Journey Crossroad and GT trims include, Uconnect 3 with 8.4-inch display, Uconnect voice command with Bluetooth plus a complimentary one-year subscription to SiriusXM Satellite Radio. Three Journey trims are equipped with six speakers and the Journey GT comes standard with six premium Alpine Speakers plus a subwoofer and a 368-watt amplifier. Finally, the Journey Crossroad and GT trims offer consumers the available option of an upgraded Uconnect 3 system that has navigation features.

Safety Features

It’s no secret that the 2018 Dodge Journey is packed with advanced safety features and with the exception of just four features, all safety features are standard on all trim levels. Standard features include active head restraints, electronic roll mitigation, electronic stability control, keyless entry and go, sentry key theft deterrent system, supplemental front seat mounted side airbags, supplemental side-curtain airbags in all rows, tire pressure monitoring display and sensor, and a LATCH-ready child seat anchor system. Offered only as an available option on the SXT trim are convenient safety features like ParkSense rear park assist system and a ParkView rear backup camera. The Journey GT is equipped with a remote start system and security alarm.

Price + Warranty

The 2018 Dodge Journey has a starting MSRP of $22,495 (plus destination fee) and prices increase based on trim and additional options. Warranties include a three-year or 36,000-mile limited basic warranty and a five-year or 60,000-mile limited powertrain warranty. Plus, there is complimentary roadside assistance for five years or 60,000 miles and five years of unlimited rust-through coverage.
