2017 Ram 2500 Power Wagon

The Ram 2500 Power Wagon is a pretty legendary truck. In addition to its long history, it is also one of the most powerful and capable off-roading heavy duty trucks on the market today. For the 2017 model year, the Ram 2500 Power Wagon was redesigned and its new design included engine and performance improvements as well as an awesome new look.

Performance and Handling

The 2017 Ram Power Wagon comes standard with a 4×4 drivetrain and it is equipped with a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine paired to a 6-speed automatic transmission. The engine and transmission produce 410 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque, making it one of the most powerful off-roading trucks available. The Ram 2500 Power Wagon has a maximum towing capacity of 10,030 pounds and it comes standard with an electronic winch that can handle up to 12,000 pounds.

In addition to the vehicle’s 4×4 drivetrain and standard electric winch, the vehicle is equipped with a few other things that make it an off-roading machine. The Ram 2500 Power Wagon has an extra two inches of lift (14.3-inch ground clearance) thanks to its special three-link suspension that features Bilstein shocks, electronic-locking differentials on both axles.

Exterior

Unlike previous designs, the 2017 model year design is similar to Ram’s smaller off-roading powerhouse, the Ram 1500 Rebel. The 2500 Power Wagon has the same matte black grille and RAM lettering as the Ram 1500 Rebel as well as the same Black bi-functional headlamps and LED marker lights. Features to give the Power Wagon its own look are the Power Wagon badging on the sides, tailgate and hood of the truck as well as the electronic winch in the front.

The 2500 Power Wagon comes standard with the 2500 Heavy Duty crew cab 4×4 design, but it is also available in the Tradesman crew cab 4×4 model. The truck rides on 33-inch Goodyear all-terrain tires and 17-inch forged, multi-surface aluminum wheels that looks similar to the wheels on the Ram 1500 Rebel. Buyers have the option of six different exterior colors.

Interior

While the Ram 2500 Power Wagon looks like a rugged truck on the outside, the truck’s interior is comfortable and modern, but it is also durable, so owners don’t need to worry about passengers tracking in mud, sand or water. As a crew cab model, the Ram 2500 Power Wagon comes standard with seating for five or six passengers and passengers in the back seat have 40.3 inches of legroom, which is spacious, especially for a truck. The seats are fabric and buyers have the option to upgrade to leather as well. For convenience, the standard floor mats are rubber, so keeping them clean is very easy and the rear seats have a built-in storage space that can be accessed by lifting up the bottom seat cushions.

Built for off-road fun, the Ram 2500 Power Wagon has great entertainment features. The truck comes standard with a five-inch touchscreen, Uconnect 5.0, a complimentary 1-year subscription to SiriusXM satellite radio and six speakers. Consumers looking for additional features can upgrade to an 8.4-inch touchscreen with Uconnect 8.4, an HD radio and nine Alpine speakers. To keep devices charged up, the truck has a couple different USB ports, so no one needs to fight over whose mobile device gets to charge.

Safety

Safety is a big concern when taking a vehicle off-the-beaten path for a little adventure and the Ram 2500 Power Wagon has many safety features. The truck features a rearview backup camera and there are plenty of airbags throughout the truck cabin.

Additionally, the 2500 Power Wagon has a couple safety features since it is built for off-roading. Unlike other Ram 2500 trims, the Ram 2500 Power Wagon has a transfer case skid plate and a fuel tank skid plate to protect it from water and debris. Also, one special part of the vehicle’s suspension is a “Smart Bar” and it makes it possible for drivers to turn off when traveling at low speeds, but it is automatically activated at speeds above 18 mph for safety purposes.
