Dodge Challenger vs Ford Mustang

The Dodge Challenger and Ford Mustang have gone head-to-head since the muscle car era in the ‘70s. Both models have a loyal fan base and hold impressive records, however, when you compare the two 2017 models there is a clear winner. Spoiler alert: it’s the Challenger. Don’t believe us? Check it out.

When it comes to muscle cars, what is more important than power and speed? The point of a muscle car is to be fast and fierce, right? With that being said, from the base models to the highest trim levels, the Challenger wins the power battle.

The Ford Mustang has three available engines including the base 3.7-liter V6 engine, a 2.3-liter Ecoboost 4-cylinder engine, and the highest level and most powerful engine, the 5.0-liter V8 engine. The Challenger on the other hand has four engine options including a 3.6-liter V6 engine, a 5.7-liter HEMI V8 engine, a 6.4-liter HEMI V8 engine and the all powerful  6.2-liter HEMI V8 Hellcat engine.

Not only does the Challenger have more engine options than the Mustang, but it also puts out between 305 and 707 horsepower depending on the engine. The Ford Mustang can put 300 to 435 horsepower depending on the engine.

Let’s talk track times. Who would win in a race? If the fastest Challenger, the Challenger SRT Hellcat raced the fastest Mustang model, the Mustang GT, the Challenger SRT Hellcat would smoke the Mustang GT. The Mustang GT accelerates from 0-60 mph in 4.3 seconds and finishes a quarter mile in 12.9 seconds. The Challenger SRT Hellcat reaches 60 mph in just 3.6 seconds and finishes a quarter mile in 11.7 seconds, wow!
