2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon is 840HP of Pure Muscle
On April 11, Dodge finally released all of the details on their latest project, the 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon and, WOW. No longer is it the “if you know, you know” campaign, now it is we all know and we are all impressed.
The carefully crafted 2018 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon produces 840 horsepower and 770 lb-ft of torque and it is officially the fastest 0-60 production car and the most powerful muscle car ever. So how did Dodge do it? Minds from Dodge and SRT partnered up to create a beast that would not only keep up with the SRT Hellcat, but leave it in the dust.
And when we say “leave it in the dust,” we mean it. The Challenger SRT Demon rockets from 0-60 in 2.3 seconds and does a quarter mile in 9.65 seconds. The SRT Hellcat goes from 0-60 mph in 3.6 seconds and does a quarter mile around 11.2 seconds. Here’s how they did it.
The all-new Challenger SRT Demon is equipped with a supercharged 6.2-liter HEMI Demon V8 engine. Though that sounds fairly similar to the engine in the SRT Hellcat (supercharged 6.2L Hemi SRT Hellcat V8), SRT tweaked the engine to boost performance. The SRT Demon’s supercharger is a 2.7-liter supercharger, which is .3 liters bigger than the 2.4L supercharger on the SRT Hellcat.
The SRT Demon also gets a large boost in power due to the all of the vehicle’s sources for air. In addition to the driver-side Air-Catcher headlamp, which is also a feature on the SRT Hellcat, the SRT Demon’s air induction system includes an Air Grabber, which is the largest functional hood scoop on any production car, and an inlet near the wheel liner. Together the Air Grabber, inlet and Air-Catcher headlamp give the SRT Demon the largest air induction volume (air-flow rate of 1,150 cubic feet per minute) of any production car.
But SRT didn’t just stop with increasing air flow to the engine, they also added the SRT Power Chiller, which cools the air going into the engine, which makes the air more dense and creates more room for even more air in the combustion cylinders.
The Challenger SRT Demon is also the first street-legal factory-production car designed to run on 100+ unleaded high-octane fuel. Additionally, the engine receives plenty of fuel via the dual fuel pumps, large fuel injectors and improved fuel lines.
Remember the talk about the Challenger SRT Demon having a wide body design? Now that we can see the entire body, we love the new look. Like all of the other features “factory production firsts” the Challenger SRT Demon is the first factory-production muscle car with wide-body fender flares. The new Challenger SRT Demon is a total of 3.5 inches wider than the Challenger SRT Hellcat and its wider body accommodates its 11-inch wide tires (1.5 inches bigger than SRT Hellcat tires).
Those are just some of the highlights and we’ll be filling you in with more details throughout the next couple weeks. Since University Dodge has the biggest collection of SRT vehicles in the Southeast U.S., we’re likely to get a Dodge Challenger SRT Demon.
